Final Boarding Call ... $100k Generation Ship almost unlocked!

This is the final boarding call for An Infinity of Ships, departing from EARTH STATION in approximately 19 hours. 

There are still a few jumpseats, cryopods and deluxe staterooms available if you'd like to bring along a friend, family member, lover ... or even an enemy that you're hoping to space out of an airlock somewhere in the void.

As you board, you'll pass by our expansive hangar bay, where you can see some of the most recent additions to our fleet, made possible by your support...

Turning your attention out the starboard viewport, you can just make out the stirrings of thousands of assembly drones, eager to begin construction of a vast Generation Ship, which we will initiate once we hit $100,000 megacredits raised.

Well, hell. 

You lot are unlocking stretch goals faster than we can create them!

But seriously, your support has inspired us to GO BIG with our final stretch goals, adding three MASSIVE ships to the book, commissioning new illustrations from Rob and adding more locations, tables and adventures for your games.

• At $80k (already unlocked!), we add a MEGA ship, an enormous seafaring vessel found on orbital Circleseas. (Yes, this is directly inspired by the megaships from Consider Phlebas)
• At $90k, we add a STRATO ship, a floating city high in the skies
• At $100k (?!), we'll create a GENERATION ship to carry your civilization to the ends of the universe on a mission to discover new worlds and, hopefully, homes. (And Holly Jencka will create a 3d illustration and model!)

Let's unlock some BIG OLD SHIPS, shall we?

DEEP SPACE 909

Check out Rob's first illustration of the Deep Space 909, an experimental space station built by a far-future Roland Space Corp, occupied by musicians and artists exploring the far reaches of sound and creativity.

There's more to come of DS909, including a top-down view by Rob, a 3d version by Holly Jencka, and some far-out sonic adventures.

Speaking of sonic adventures, since you screamed past the $70k stretch goal from the last update, we're adding a soundtrack, composed by Aeon Cub!

Y'all smashed past the $55k stretch goal, so you're getting some DRONES.

Why, it's a snippet of our next stretch goal, music composed by Aeon Cub! 

That's right, after we reach $70k, Aeon Cub will create a soundtrack for the project, fashioned like a mixtape made by residents of the Deep Space 909 experimental music station.

INTERVIEW in the ADVENTURE GAMING PERIODICAL

Violet Ballard invited me and Jess Levine to share our thoughts on the project and Jess's approach to creating gendered and queer spaceships, which included this gem from Jess (among many others).

Adam commissioned me to write tables of ship genders, expressions, and orientations, and to explain their meanings. I plan to fill these tables with both human genders and orientations these ships might want to adopt, and those which other ships decide to create for themselves. Gender and orientation are evolving and inter-linked to the society they exist within—I can’t wait to explore what sort of gender a ship might desire (or even feel trapped in) in the society implied by the tables and example ships of An Infinity of Ships.

Do give the interview a read to see why we wanted to include gender and orientation in the book, and why we are SO EXCITED that Jess will be steering that spaceship. 

MISCELLANY

• Evlyn Moreau, who is writing one of the adventures in our book, just launched a Kickstarter for Goblin Mail, an "adventure about a chaotic post office run by goblins full of whimsy that's infested with gremlins and all sorts of freaky lil' creatures." It looks like a super fun game, in one of our favorite systems (Troika!). Definitely check it out.
• Aeon Cub / Ritual Cuts, who is composing our soundtrack, is Kickstarting Temple Punks, a solo roll & write / ttrpg hybrid that looks fascinating. I absolutely love mash-ups of different game mechanics, and this one has me incredibly intrigued. Pick it up if you want to spice up your solo gaming!

NEW STRETCH GOALS INCOMING....

DRONES!

Spaceships are great and all, but let's get some love for the DRONES that support them!

When we break $55,000, we'll add a section on drones to the book, along with a bunch of illustrations from Rob! 

Attack drones, maintenance drones, security drones ... and, um, philosophy drones, emotional support drones, environmental art drones? Drone tech, drone names, drone personalities, drone malfunctions? Red drones, blue drones, plaid drones? Drone music sub-sub-genres?

Who knows? 

The drones knows!

Ok, so we totally missed the chance to make some sort of grimdark 40k stretch goal. Sometimes you dakka, sometimes you don't, what can I say?

BUT, we did unlock a faction designed and illustrated by Luka Rejec of the Ultraviolet Grasslands. He's shared some preliminary ideas and sketches with me, and trust me you are going to be blown away by his vision of ... the Overriders ....

Hull-o-ween

Me: Rob, could we do a scary spaceship for Hull-o-ween? 

Rob: Does Cathedral Gothic / Spanish Inquisition / Baroque torture device - count as horror?

Deep Space 909!

Remember our Roland-class 808 ship? 

If we hit 909% funding ($45,450), it's getting a bigger cousin.... 

Deep Space 909 will be a fully operational station dedicated to the pursuit of musical and artistic exploration at the edges of known space. 

Rob will illustrate it, and we'll write a bunch of content for it.
